A pig is not born but rather becomes a pig. So, famously, may have said feminist Simone de Beauvoir. This absurdist show explores whether men, too, must now find ways to become men. Following a brief prelude in which a toxic male’s partner unsurprisingly walks out, a puzzled but emotionally (and philosophically) literate female pig inexplicably arrives in her place. Her porcine intuitions provide the meat of the show, as she probes the muddles of a misogynist who does not even know whether she is a pet, friend or prospective meal. This ambitious new writing could be further developed, especially to draw the toxic male character more sharply, but its extended metaphor offers both amusement and reflection.
