Three storytelling comedians

Three storytelling comedians at the Edinburgh Festival 2024…
Liam Farrelly: Flipbook | The Stand Comedy Club 2 | 1-25 Aug (pictured)
To be fair, a great many comedians could be regarded as ‘storytellers’ as opposed to ‘gag dispensers’, but this lot have tended to mention it in their promo material, so if they like that idea, I am going with it. First up is Liam Farrelly, who this year promises a show more personal and emotional than before. It’s his second Fringe show – which he refers to as the “difficult second” – but the first was well received, so expect good things. Info and tickets here.
James Barr: Sorry I Hurt Your Son (Said My Ex To My Mum) | Underbelly Bristo Square | 1-25 Aug
And now for James Barr, award winning comedian, radio presenter and podcaster, who is in Edinburgh this year with a show tackling the aftermath of an abusive relationship via some courageous and honest storytelling. It’s a performance in which he opens up about being a survivor of domestic violence, but the serious theme won’t stop him from delivering quality stand-up and excellent punchlines. Info and tickets here.
Nerine Skinner: The Exorcism Of Liz Truss | Just the Tonic at The Caves | 2-25 Aug
“In 2022, politically unaware Nerine Skinner went viral for her parodies of Prime Minister Liz Truss. Outlasted in Downing Street by a lettuce, Liz Truss’s political relevance faded and the country moved on. But Nerine didn’t”. And now, through original characters, political characters and storytelling, she tells the tale of trying to let go and get past her unhealthy codependency with the ill-fated PM.
