COVERING THE EDINBURGH FESTIVAL SINCE 1996
Three shows with social media themes

Three shows with social media themes at the Edinburgh Festival 2024…
FAMEHUNGRY | Summerhall | 1-26 Aug (pictured)
Social media can be brilliant, but also a cursed thing, and it’s a topic that’s cropped up in a lot of shows in recent times at the Fringe. ‘FAMEHUNGRY’ is one of those shows, and it’s the latest work from the award winning Louise Orwin, renowned for ‘A Girl And A Gun’. For this, she cosplays as a TikToker and fuses performance art with live TikTok experiences to look at what it means to be an artist now, and question a future where all roads lead to TikTok. Info and tickets here.
#NoFilter | Greenside @ George Street | 12-24 Aug
You’ve probably gathered that we are fans of new stuff – it’s what the Fringe is all about, really, and so are we – and it’s always good to see new musicals arriving in Edinburgh, especially when we’re used to seeing many go on to much greater things. Anyway, this is a new one based on real lives, conversations, stories and Instagram feeds, and it pledges to “to lift the veil on those ‘perfect’ social media couples”. Info and tickets here.
James Cook: Anonymously Viral | Laughing Horse @ 32 Below | 1-25 Aug
“James spent fifteen years on Twitter trying to go viral, and then one day he did. So what happens when a tweet blows up and the worst people in the world start replying?” There seem to be quite a number of people called James doing comedy stuff at this year’s Fringe. Maybe it’s always that way. But in any case, this James has a story to tell you about how things go down on Twitter, or whatever we call it now. Info and tickets here.
