Three shows about mysterious stuff at the Edinburgh Festival 2024…

There are always a number of murder mystery type shows at edfringe and I like those, but we are going to start with a different kind of mystery, from acclaimed comic Michelle Brasier. “In 2022 she was handed an envelope with her name on containing $10.50 in mostly coins. But it wasn’t for her. ‘Legacy’ is the search for another Michelle Brasier and the exploration of all the other women she might have been if she’d made different choices”. Info and tickets here.

A Highly Suspect Murder Mystery: The Fringe Fatality/The Great British Bloodbath | theSpace @ Surgeons’ Hall | until 24 Aug
Highly Suspect are doing two of these hilarious, interactive murder mysteries suitable for (though absolutely not limited to) a family audience (eight and over). ‘The Fringe Fatality’ is on early afternoon and ‘The Great British Bloodbath’ late afternoon, so you could see them both the same day, or, you know, fit them into different days for Fringe viewing. Or just see one, I guess, but… you’ll always wonder, won’t you? What the other one was like…? Info and tickets here and here. 

The Signalman | Zoo Southside | until 25 Aug
I suppose one might regard this as a ghost story rather than a mystery, but actually it is also a mystery, because the signalman of the title is haunted by a mysterious figure standing by a railway tunnel, and he’s sure it’s a warning – but what about? I love Dickens, it’s not a secret, so I am always drawn to adaptations of his work and I have great expectations (sorry) of this Paragon Theatre Collective adaptation. Info and tickets here.
