Three love stories

Three love stories at the Edinburgh Festival 2025…
This Shit Happens All The Time | Assembly George Square Studios | until 25 Aug
Who’s up for a love story or three? With some serious themes to consider too, of course: this isn’t just fluffy stuff. First up, Amanda Verlaque presents this darkly funny one woman show that tells a true tale of “queer love, about tummy flips and hearts skipping beats” and what happens when your girlfriend’s ex boyfriend has murderous intentions. Lola: A Flamenco Love Story | Pleasance at EICC | until 24 Aug
This was bound to leap out at me, because I was looking for stories involving love, obviously, but I am also an absolute sucker for anything involving flamenco. This is a musical about Lola, who has lost her husband, and flees poverty stricken Spain for London, to find work to support the children she has left behind. A story of resilience, love and hope. Lost Girls/At Bus Stops | Assembly George Square | 15-24 Aug
Quite loath to leave behind the tales of love to be honest, but we have to, after this one, which is another queer love story, set in the Festival city and described as a “lost letter to Edinburgh”. It focuses on Jess and Iona, who wander around on the last night of the Fringe looking for “that best show, finest view, that perfect moment to confess… everything”. Find the edfringe listing here.
