Three Greek mythy shows at the Edinburgh Festival 2025…

Arachne | Greenside @ Riddles Court | 1-23 Aug
I love Greek myths and read them obsessively as a child, so when I saw lots of shows inspired by them happening this year, I had to do a set of tips. I also love spiders and so Arachne is special to me, so that’s why we’re starting here. It’s also a hilarious solo show, so it’s kinda ticking all of my boxes. Hurrah. Info and tickets here.

Cassandra | The Scottish Storytelling Centre | 31 Jul-17 Aug (intermittent dates) (pictured)
Another interesting one, not least because its creator – traditional storyteller and musician Ailsa Dixon – blends Greek myth with Scottish folklore and personal narrative: Cassandra sits in Apollo’s temple, “mind shattering under the weight of predictions never believed”, while a number of different stories unravel. The Cyclops | theSpace @ Symposium Hall | 1-23 Aug
“Odysseus is trying to get home after ten long years of war. Instead of fresh supplies and helpful locals, he finds a murderous monster and a band of rakish immortals on this mysterious island”. Another show that pairs Greek myth with Scottish folklore, and promises to be a hilarious adaptation full of wayward heroes and, of course, a one-eyed giant. Info and tickets here.
