This is a story about ordinary people. Ordinary people who happened to witness the most talked-about event of the 20th century. Martin Fitzgerald’s show doesn’t attempt to look at alternative theories of who killed Kennedy. Instead, he focuses on people who ended up on the quietest part of the parade route that day – “the people who stand in the kitchen at parties”. Their actions, such as that of the titular man standing on a dry day with an open umbrella, have been studied and misinterpreted for decades. Fitzgerald is a warm deadpan presence, part comedian, part lecturer, as he PowerPoints us through a brisk 50 minutes that educates and entertains, whether you’re new to the grassy knoll or you’re a diehard conspiracy theorist.
