The Polar Bears Go Up (The Polar Bears / Unicorn Theatre London)
By Bruce Blacklaw | Published on Tuesday 22 August 2017
These polar bears are ahead of the climate change game, living in a nicely appointed flat and ordering stuff for delivery, including a gold star helium balloon. It’s all non-verbal, so quite a lot of (occasionally very funky) interpretive dance, some lovely miming and charismatic visual mugging convey a plot in which the bears work out ways of getting higher and higher, to retrieve the balloon after one of them lets go of the string (relatable content, right there). Slight room quibble: not quite enough cushions down the front, and too many rows of chairs, so get in sharp if you want to sit with your wee one and have them see the thing properly. Otherwise, exceedingly cool toddling fun.
Pleasance at EICC, until 27 Aug.
