The Good Person of Sichuan – The Italia Conti Ensemble (Theatre)
By Amy Bonar | Published on Tuesday 29 August 2017
Bertolt Brecht’s well known play explores the complexities involved in being a ‘good’ person in a capitalist society: after being given money from the Gods, Shen Te decides to buy a tobacco shop and help her community, but is ultimately taken advantage of. This is a very engaging production of it, directed by Kristine Landon Smith and performed by the Italia Conti Ensemble, featuring an eclectic mix of original music, creative staging, and honest, adept acting. It’s a shortened version, which unfortunately means that important moments can feel a little brief and not thoroughly developed, but these promising young performers offered deft performances, making this a highly impressive and watchable show.
