The Crow, (The Princess) And The Scullery Maid (Spin Cycle Theater)

In this enthralling performance in an intimate space, the story mingles with comedy, fantasy and narrative, and the excellent development of the narrative ensures the attention of the audience. Playwright and protagonist Lucie Rowan performs her compelling script with great sincerity, making the fairy tale truly fascinating theatrical fodder. The show relies somewhat on the audience’s prior knowledge of the well known stories, but the manner of storytelling combined with a committed performance is very engaging. Simple and functional props create various scenarios, and hand-made 18th-century costumes enhance the performance. A modern presentation of time honoured themes that leaves one pondering how happy endings contrast with the cruelty of present daily life.
