The Box Show (Junkyard Beats / Assembly Festival)

Right. This is a show about boxes. Specifically, the fairly constant and loud hitting of them for an hour. If you don’t fancy that – which I respect – you should probably move on. However, if you do fancy a relentlessly percussive hour of entertainment, then this certainly fits the bill. By way of variety, the four impressively synched and quirkily charismatic performers also each take a go at hitting pots, pans, wheelie bins and, on occasion, themselves and each other. There’s a light touch recycling messaging woven throughout. It’s all suitably energetic, and cleverly keeps the audience involved and engaged from beginning to end. In short, it barely misses a beat.

Assembly George Square, until 24 Aug.
