COVERING THE EDINBURGH FESTIVAL SINCE 1996
Spencer Jones: Dogs (Soho Theatre)
Spencer Jones, already on stage whilst we were getting seated, was painting a dog’s head surrounded by an array of props. He vanished, only to reappear as the annoying three-pint-carrying person with peanuts – “Excuse me!” – hilarious, and we’re off. A masterpiece, this unique, prop-laden performance, joyful and triumphant for all. I urge you to strap in and revel in the work of a master of his craft. I suspect Spencer made the props himself – that must have taken ages, as well as writing the show, which was – as a preview – labelled a “work in progress”, yet was honestly a “work in perfection”. A masterclass in joyful comedy that attains absolute comedic nirvana. Do not miss this utterly unforgettable hour of pure genius.
Pleasance Dome, until 30 Aug.
