In this true story there’s a little too much truth and not quite enough story. Adam Linn, living in Boston in 1984, is 12 years old, losing his sight, and moving to a special educational school. There’s plenty to like in Linn’s sincere delivery, especially the warm portrayals of the friends he made there, who shared his love of music and breakdancing. The story touches on his emotional challenges but these are not developed. The play is not as well assembled and crafted as it could be. For example, the play’s format – a series of one-sided conversations – quickly grows stale. Some form of overarching narrative device would help keep the audience engaged.
