Shit-Faced Showtime: The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz (Magnificent Bastard Productions)
By Emily Mildren | Published on Tuesday 22 August 2017
‘Shit-Faced Showtime’ is a companion show to the long-running ‘Shit-Faced Shakespeare’, and the premise remains the same. A ‘serious’ piece is chosen, professional performers are enlisted, and then each night one of them is chosen and given enough alcohol to make them decidedly drunk. With just five in the cast, some of the actors played multiple roles, and this meant that tonight the intoxication affected not just a munchkin but also the tin man. Though he tried his best, it was inevitable that lines were hilariously forgotten, songs were out of tune, and the plot took more than one unexpected twist.’The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’ has never been so disastrous, but neither has it ever been so much fun.
Underbelly Med Quad, until 28 Aug.
