Shakespeare Translate: The Complete Works (Devon Loves ME! Productions)

In a very quintessentially quirky Fringe event, ‘Shakespeare Translate’ sees what happens when Shakespeare’s plays are put through Google Translate 15 times. Yet there is method to their madness! This production explores how we interpret Shakespeare’s work in the 21st century; how iambic pentameter translates into modern-day text; and if the rhythmic quality of Shakespearean language remains after rigorous translation. Although an innovative idea, many of the transitions between Shakespeare’s different plays are choppy and the audience becomes lost at the more obscure texts. However, the show is elevated considerably by its two highly enthusiastic and skilled performers, as well as the sheer hilarity of each of their interactions with their admiring audience!

Greenside @ George Street, until 24 Aug.
