Sometimes you witness a show that feels like it is genuinely important to see. This is a hard-hitting theatre production that depicts how a simple social programme can make a huge difference to someone whose trauma has controlled their life. It’s a very script driven show, with powerful acting, and Sam Bates has crafted an impactful tale that finds its balance in getting its message across for the audience to ponder on. Furthermore, from seeing the characters’ progression as the show moves forward, one’s empathy for them only increases. The story feels entirely grounded, and both Adam Halcro and Naytanael Israel deliver powerful performances showcasing an impressively wide range. With its emotional, affecting ending, ‘Sessions’ will certainly stick with me.
