COVERING THE EDINBURGH FESTIVAL SINCE 1996
River Time! (Laura Thurlow)
Laura Thurlow is dressed like a cottagecore Ophelia, as she fills her pockets with pebbles like Virginia Woolf. She sits triangulated between these figures and a person closer to her heart, in this prosaic story of the desire to be all things to all people, and the overwhelm in the face of such a task. The show lilts like one of Thurlow’s beloved rivers: sometimes drifting with ease, others chillingly still. Thurlow as a performer brings sincerity and emotional openness in a way that feels frank; Thurlow as a writer navigates difficult topics with clarity and beauty. The show deals with fear of not achieving, but achieves a marvellous gem in and of itself.
Greenside at Riddles Court, until 24 Aug.
