COVERING THE EDINBURGH FESTIVAL SINCE 1996
Riki Lindhome: Dead Inside (Alchemation And Stamptown)
American comedian Lindhome begins by explaining that her show is about her fertility journey, but laughs are coming. Some of the things she reveals provoke a range of visceral reactions from the audience. It’s a powerful, occasionally horrifying show as Lindhome lays bare her sometimes wonderful, sometimes terrible experiences in trying to have a baby. But musicals are Lindhome’s happy place, and she has a lot of fun showing us some clips that parallel her journey. Late on, she breaks down in tears at the piano, prompting one audience member to cross the stage and hand her a hankie. I didn’t expect to be so moved and uplifted by Lindhome’s story. The ending is met with a spontaneous and well-deserved standing ovation.
Pleasance Courtyard, run ended.
