Felicity Ward

A regular on the Aussie comedy network, and originally part of the Australian sketch comedy group The 3rd Degree, Felicity Ward’s show ‘The Hedghog Dilemma’ picked up all sorts of acclaim when she played it at the Adelaide Fringe and Melbourne Comedy Festival earlier this year, and now you can check it out in Edinburgh.
But first, the small matter of the Quick Quiz.

TW: Tell us about your 2012 show in no more than 60 words.
FW: It’s won a bunch of awards, it’s puerile, it’s personal, there’s a drinking song in it and it uses hedgehog analogies for human intimacy. Dick jokes vs the human condition: WHAT’S NOT TO LOVE!

TW: Tell us about another show or performer you’re looking forward to seeing this year.
FW: ‘Hot Dub Time Machine’ (at Gilded Balloon Teviot). It’s a time travelling video, DJ and music bonanza. I’ve seen it twice before and if you have wont for dancing during the Ffestival then that’s where you will find happiness. Which is an ethereal way of saying it’s shitloads of rug-cutting fun. Buy a ticket now. It’s awesome.

TW: How will you be preparing for the Fringe this year?
FW: The same way I always prepare in Australia beforehand: by cutting out vegetables, crying before I go on stage and going on Ghost Tours with a lot of other insecure people.

TW: What advice would you have for someone coming to the Fringe for the first time?
FW: It’s like childbirth: it’s the most painful and rewarding and amazing thing you’ll ever do…but you will forget how much it hurt afterwards because you’ll just be so grateful it’s over. So much so that you’ll somehow find yourself registering next year. I should mention, I’ve never gone through childbirth. So I’m guessing.

TW: If your show was an Olympic sport, what would it be and why?
FW: Dressage: it goes for an hour, it’s piss funny to watch and you can’t believe anyone would pay you to do it for a job.

Felicity Ward’s ‘The Hedgehog Dilemma’ was performed at Underbelly Bristo Square at Fringe 2012.
