Puddles And Amazons (Guy Woods, Rachel Flynn, Balenji Mwiche)

‘Puddles and Amazons’ is a storytelling show about grief and loss, love and piss. Guy Woods, who writes and stars, turns in a compelling performance and gives so much of himself to the story of a boy’s journey through adolescence (including mopping up at the end). The sound effects are created live, and the audience is invited to participate, which we all do enthusiastically. Rachel Flynn’s direction makes full use of the old lecture hall space, as Woods uses backdrops and lighting to convey elements of the story. Woods also enjoys throwing water, towels, and clothing all over the hall, even into the audience. A spirited, tender story, beautifully performed.

Summerhall, until 26 Aug.
