COVERING THE EDINBURGH FESTIVAL SINCE 1996
Pedro Leandro: Soft Animal (BIGHEAD Comedy in association with Independent Talent Group)
‘Soft Animal’ could be labelled ‘theatrical comedy’ I think. Not because it’s theatrical, although there are some segments where Pedro Leandro shows off his acting skills, which – we’re told – were once described as “magnetic” by The Guardian. But because it feels like comedy for theatre people, which seems like a solid pitch at a festival where theatre and comedy collide. He muses on the need for validation, pitches for a role at the Donmar Warehouse and leaves you in no doubt about his opinions of the hit musical ‘Hamilton’. Pedro is an engaging storyteller and he has some interesting stories to tell. The comedy is gentle and sometimes the punchlines could come faster, but it’s a solid debut nonetheless.
Pleasance Courtyard, until 24 Aug.
