COVERING THE EDINBURGH FESTIVAL SINCE 1996
Outpatient (Crowded Room In Association With Reading Rep Theatre)
With minimal props, simple costumes, and very well developed play, Harriet Madeley impresses in this relatively small scale production. The narrative of the show sees a patient going through her diagnosis with primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC), a potentially very serious illness. The show is performed in a lecture theatre, which works well, given that we are learning about a rare, immune-mediated liver disease, yet at the same time it’s a space that allows the performer to establish a good rapport. The optimistic mood of the songs we heard created good vibes, and, along with Madeley’s lively and informative performance, helped win the hearts of an attentive audience.
Summerhall, until 26 Aug.
