ED2021 Music Reviews
One-Hand Piano (Stefan Warzycki)
By Louise Rodgers | Published on Sunday 22 August 2021
The right hand was not missed in this dramatic, compelling recital. Full of passion and verve, this was a virtuosic display of musicianship from Warzycki using not only the left hand but also the pedals to add fullness to the emphatic sound. Alexander Scriabin’s ‘Prelude In C Sharp Minor, Op. 9 No 1’ had striking Romantic contrasts. Thordur Magnusson’s nature inspired ‘Scenes Of Iceland’ was modern and more contained, but nevertheless movement III, ‘Dance Of The Northern Lights’ pranced and sparkled vividly on the high notes of the keyboard. Leopold Godowsky’s ‘Studies On The Études Of Frédéric Chopin’ was a floridly impressive showstopper particularly Warzycki’s performance of ‘No 22 In C Sharp Minor [Op. 10 No 12]’ – a thundering highlight of this year’s Fringe.
St Andrew’s And St George’s West, run ended.
