COVERING THE EDINBURGH FESTIVAL SINCE 1996
Old Man (Jon And Ollie)
The solo performance is joyful and realistic, and speaks to a certain level of expertise: this is Jon Tilley’s fifth time at Edinburgh Fringe. It’s physical theatre with mime, clowning and has a well-established sequence of events that generates a lot of laughter as it moves from the chasing of a mosquito, to fighting with the audience with a roll of newspaper, to throwing socks. These were all wonderful moments for the audience to enjoy. Many older people are nostalgic for the good old days, just like this protagonist, and these bits and bites appear as fragments of his past memories, so there is poignancy here too: happiness always contains sorrow.
Summerhall, until 11 Aug.
