Oasis shows result in Edinburgh hotel price surge

Hotel prices have surged in Edinburgh this weekend as the big Oasis reunion tour arrives in the Scottish capital in the middle of the Festival, creating huge demand for accommodation.
According to an FT report citing data from RSM UK, the price of an average hotel room is up 91% this weekend from £321 to £613. Meanwhile AirDNA reckons demand for short-term accommodation in Edinburgh is up 20%.
About 200,000 people are expected to attend the three Oasis shows taking place at Edinburgh’s Murrayfield stadium over the next few days.
The shows clash with the Edinburgh Festival, which is now in full swing as the Book Festival gets going tomorrow alongside the International Festival, the Art Festival, the Military Tattoo and the massive Edinburgh Fringe.
Accommodation costs – for both performers and audience members – are already one of the biggest challenges facing the Edinburgh Festival and the clash with the Oasis shows this year has exacerbated the problem.
That has likely frozen some performers out, while increasing the financial risk for those who are performing this year.
