COVERING THE EDINBURGH FESTIVAL SINCE 1996
NoVa (Les Foutoukours)
Who cares about a clown’s sadness or whether they are cold? In the summer heat, I took a seat and waves of laughter washed over me as I watched this abstract tale about trying to stay warm by lighting candles that keep going out, inspired by the story of ‘The Little Match Girl’. Each moment came together to weave a tapestry of familial warmth from this simplest of tales. The performers’ free-spirited movements and breathtaking aerial antics crafted a gentle, heartwarming tale for the children around me. I felt like I was witnessing a journey of discovery, through humour and healing: after climbing a lot of laborious stairs and slopes in Edinburgh, here I found peace and relaxation.
Assembly Roxy, until 25 Aug.
