COVERING THE EDINBURGH FESTIVAL SINCE 1996
Mr Chonkers (Impatient Productions)
Yes, this brilliant show has sold out its run. Obviously. But you should queue up at Summerhall every night anyway, just in case there are returns, because John Norris’s ‘Mr Chonkers’ deserves every accolade coming its way. This absurdist clowning show is presented as a terribly serious performer’s showcase, where Norris shows off his chops at theatre, impressions, poetry, magic and more. It descends, however, into a bug-eyed breakdown. Norris’s presence becomes increasingly manic as the routines refuse to go to plan. He thrives on audience reactions, folding us in to create an extraordinary rapport that makes the show thrillingly unpredictable and no doubt different from night to night. So, I guess I’ll see you in the Summerhall returns queue.
Summerhall, until 24 Aug.
