Monkeys: Our Primate Family (National Museum Of Scotland)

This brilliant exhibition is a thought provoking and family friendly experience. The challenge starts as you enter, because you are immediately faced with images of primates interspersed with mirrors reflecting back your own image. How do we differ? How are we the same? As you wind your way around a series of beautifully preserved primates, there are sights and sounds of the creatures in their natural habitats, making it close to a fully immersive experience. The mirroring of we humans is a recurring theme throughout. Early stone age tools are placed beside chimpanzee tools, to be seen as almost identical. A darker perspective begins to emerge towards the end, when human exploitation is brought to the foreground. A must see!

National Museum of Scotland, until 30 Nov.
