COVERING THE EDINBURGH FESTIVAL SINCE 1996
Michelle Brasier: Legacy
As someone with a very common name indeed, if I was randomly handed an envelope full of coins intended for another Chris Cooke, it would be a noteworthy coincidence, but not life-changing. However, Michelle Brasier has a much more unusual name – only she appears on page one of a Google search – which means when she was handed an envelope of coins for a different Michelle Brasier, it was much more intriguing. That incident, and a subsequent search to find the other Michelle, certainly provides a fine narrative for this show, in which this Michelle considers what her legacy might be “if I die before my time”. While the envelope mystery runs throughout, there are also comedic stories about failed auditions, a near-death experience and a rather gruesome cyst, most prompting songs that are excellently performed with accompaniment from Tim Lancaster. It’s a high energy show from the moment you enter the venue, keeping you entertained and intrigued from beginning to end.
Gilded Balloon Patter House, until 25 Aug.
