‘Vote Naughty’ it says on a t-shirt on the merchandise stand. Veteran actress, TV personality and author Miriam Margolyes knows her audience and the expletives go off like fireworks to open the show. Being foul-mouthed has built recognition, but being a fine actress has built a sixty-year award-winning stage and screen career. Here, she brings a host of Charles Dickens’ characters to the stage also regaling us with stories about her own life, including her fight against injustice, discrimination and prejudice. The ask-me-anything Q&A session at the end is about more than being funny and outrageous. She’s committed to this fight. This show celebrates legacy and truth, and she leaves the stage to a standing ovation.

Pleasance at EICC, until 24 August.
