Pareidolia. A word you’ve not often read in a theatre review. Finding images in random patterns. But Mairi Campbell’s story is deeper, more grounded and more complex. There really are stories in the stones, there really is a history to be told. In a strongly personal tale, of family connections and yet of a need for retreat to a familiar but strangely unknown environment, Mairi relates the finding of artefacts that tell of both history and an unfathomable grounding in place. She tells the story well, aided by Kath Burlinson’s lucid and creative direction. Embracing music, song, art and a sometimes wry, sometimes direct story-telling style, the show creates in the space the very calm that it seeks to understand.
