COVERING THE EDINBURGH FESTIVAL SINCE 1996
Lessons On Revolution (Undone Theatre And Carmen Collective)
Gab and Sam’s flat is set with a yellow rug, two mid-century modern chairs, a pitcher of lemon iced tea, and biscuits. How exciting and apt for this piece of historical theatre to be set in such a personal space. From the start, Gab and Sam’s investigation of 1960s activism at the London School of Economics is disclaimed as having a tenuous relationship with objectivity. The pair is more so interested in a kind of history that maintains awareness of its inevitable blindnesses and remains as personal as it is archival. As Gab and Sam swiftly shift between descriptions of direct actions and discussions of personal housing troubles, they develop an excitingly honest argument about the unfixed narrative of history.
Summerhall, until 26 Aug.
