Lara Ricote: Little Tiny Wet Show (Baptism) (IAM)

Even the way Lara Ricote gets on stage cracks me up. Her persona is solid and well-crafted, and she confidently interacts with the audience: mockingly condescending us. She immediately creates a rapport, which allows her to take us on a hilarious journey. Born in Mexico, raised in the US, and now sort-of living in the Netherlands, Ricote’s comedy – like her origins – knows no boundaries. Ricote tells a story and a joke brilliantly, embodying them through her skilful physicality too. Her energy and playfulness fuel our laughter for the whole hour. The show is also tightly and cleverly structured, the content – mostly focusing on her relationship with her boyfriend – is reflected in the form and in that established connection with us.

Monkey Barrel, until 25 Aug.
