Kate Atkinson: Last Good Man Standing (Edinburgh International Book Festival)

Atkinson didn’t fail to excite her audience for her latest instalment of her ‘Case Histories’ series ‘Death at the Sign of the Rook’. Describing her writing process and performing a compelling introductory extract of the book – which captured Atkinson’s distinct brand of humour – the audience felt very drawn in, and there was a lot of laughter. I did feel the event could have moved at a slightly faster pace, and perhaps then have fit in more – background on Atkinson’s journey to become a writer and her experiences of the publishing industry. But (and Atkinson strongly maintains that writers are allowed to begin sentences with but) for long standing fans of her work, and this particular series it was an informative and fun insight.
