Jojo Sutherland, I Wish You Were My Mum (Careful What You Wish For) (Jojo Sutherland / The Stand Comedy Club)

At my friend’s wedding her auntie Carol swore, drank everyone under the table, danced all night, and still looked glam the next day. Jojo Sutherland is an auntie Carol. She takes a dig at parenting differences, and the ways in which she could better understand where her mum was coming from, in this hearty hour of stand up. There are some well edited visual gags in this show, including an old TV appearance that is eye-watering (hilarious / excruciating in equal measure). There’s some strong material in here which verges on sentimental, but also some heavy leaning on generational cliches (I’d say it’s a Gen X thing, but what is their thing?). Sutherland’s charisma makes up for her insults.

The Stand 1, until 26 Aug.
