COVERING THE EDINBURGH FESTIVAL SINCE 1996
Hound In The Light (Art Home)
An interesting performance was delivered by four cast members from Hong Kong, in a show with only four scenes, each nonetheless offering profound meaning and creating an unforgettable experience. It begins with a scene titled ‘Puppy Yoga’, which is light-hearted and full of satirical humour, reflecting city life and earning smiles from the audience. The dynamic staging enhances audience engagement too: simple and effective props, such as masks and large transparent plastic bags, create striking imagery during moments of soul-switching. Additionally, storyboards with Chinese writing introduce Eastern cultural style to Western audiences. A catchphrase printed on flyers under the iconic Hong Kong Lion Rock said: “I can’t tell who or what I am… Can you?” I wonder if this is intentionally meant to reflect the current situation in Hong Kong.
