HiBROW and Odeon take the Fringe to the UK’s cinema screens
By Chris Cooke | Published on Saturday 19 July 2014
HiBROW, a digital venture that documents the arts online, has announced an alliance with the Odeon group which will see highlights from this year’s Edinburgh Festival beamed into cinemas across the UK.
Specially selected theatre, comedy and opera shows will be filmed at the Fringe’s Summerhall venue, and then packaged with some other Festival highlights and screened at Odeon cinemas in early evening slots at 28 towns and cities around the UK, including two in Edinburgh itself.
The shows due to be filmed for the HiBROW screenings are as follows:
4 Aug: The Dispute
6 Aug: Jonny & The Baptists
11 Aug: The Man Who Almost Killed Himself
12 Aug: Four Screws Loose
14 Aug: Berkoff, the Inimitable
18 Aug: Sleight & Hand
20 Aug: Sarah Louise Young as Cabaret Whore
21 Aug: Allison Jackson: A Story in the Public Domain
Announcing the initiative this week, Don Boyd, Artistic Director for HiBROW, told ThreeWeeks: “Our Hibrow Hour at Summerhall was conceived with the intention of offering audiences everywhere a flavour of Edinburgh’s creative buzz in August. Our relationship with Odeon has given us the opportunity to fulfil that ambition and so extend the great work pioneered by the National Theatre and the Royal Opera House in bringing exciting new shows to local cinemas all over the country”.
Meanwhile Drew Kaza, Executive VP of Digital Development for Odeon Cinemas, added: “Odeon is excited to work with the fabulous Edinburgh Festival Fringe and HiBROW to bring the buzz and innovation of the Fringe to the local cinemas across the UK for the very first time. This unique event is another example of the ground-breaking alternative content we strive to present to our guests under the ‘Odeon Plus’ banner”.
