COVERING THE EDINBURGH FESTIVAL SINCE 1996
Goodbye Dandelion (Maddie And Marcus Rice, Charlotte Pleasants And Underbelly)
This two-hander feels authentic and personal as it is performed by siblings Maddie and Marcus, and the playful dynamic between the two is partly what makes the show successful and engaging. The story is that of an intergenerational friendship between an 87-year-old who has the courage to die, and a woman in her 30s who perhaps doesn’t quite have the courage to live. The storytelling is interlaced with sweet, joyous, and somewhat silly songs accompanied by the piano. The audience I’m watching with is on board throughout the performance, and by the end, I can tell they are moved. The play – albeit not entirely original – is a genuine and heartfelt reflection on life, friendship, and death.
Underbelly Cowgate, until 30 Aug.
