Goodbear: Dougal (DugOut Theatre and Noel Gay Management)
By Charlie Ellis | Published on Tuesday 27 August 2019
Goodbear deliver on the promise of their previous Fringe shows (eg, ‘The Pin: Backstage’) with a performance of immense flair and skill. The sketch duo’s shtick is again that the real performers are delayed (both are dressed in Pleasance T-Shirts, adding to the pretence). They’ve added even greater physicality and sublime use of sound effects and lighting to their performance which all contribute to the immersive feel of the show. They race through a number of film and TV genres with constant, surprising changes of mood and pace. Given the preponderance of stand-up comedy at the Fringe, their parody of the genre is delightful. The nomination for the comedy prize received by Goodbear is fully justified by this superb performance.
Pleasance Dome, run ended.
