Going Soft (Action Theatre Scotland)

Two keen and eager entrepreneurs set up Bar-L, the country’s first prison-themed pub, complete with a ball pit to play in. But things start to go awry when they have to make a presentation to someone who could provide them with the money to fully realise their dream. Although the premise seems like a sketch, the young cast manages to wring a decent hour out of the disappointments, confusions and tensions the chance of fast cash brings about. Jack Byrne and LJ Aitken have fun as the battling pair, bickering and eventually rolling on the ground, fighting with one another, while Sarah Docherty does well with the more static role of the potential funder. It’s a lively and promising production.

Underbelly Cowgate until 24 Aug.
