COVERING THE EDINBURGH FESTIVAL SINCE 1996
GO! (Corps In Situ)
Martial arts as physical theatre for kids, you ask? Produced in Luxembourg? Well, it doesn’t get much more Fringe than that. Two martial artists enter, one doing a straight-faced series of warm-up moves, the other with a glint in his eye hinting at silliness to come as he gets ready with a wooden samurai sword. There is some non-verbal bickering as they squabble over the sword, before things get more kinetic with variable floor lighting half-suggesting assorted video-game sequences. The choreography throughout, including a late de-trousering, and the movement of both performers is really good. If you like the idea of physical theatre for kids based on a playful approach to martial arts, then… er… GO!
Zoo Southside, until 24 Aug.
