The two performers’ outfits channel polar bears dressed as clowns. The cartoonish vibe gives way to something a little more reminiscent of silent film as they lean into their odd-couple variation in size as they explore their ‘world’ – a lovely, clever set – together. Their explorations are intricately choreographed, with remarkably sustained synchronisation of movement throughout whilst projecting real charm and warmth. The pace is resolutely, purposely leisurely, the various bits of lifting, tap, juggling and aerial work given time to develop and, with the narrative illusion of the characters trying this stuff out, gets the young audience bought in – “you can do it” was the refrain from the stalls more than once. Spoiler: of course they could.
