COVERING THE EDINBURGH FESTIVAL SINCE 1996
Get Off (Katy Baird)
In this tender piece of performance art, Baird invites audiences to connect with her in a candid conversation about loneliness, trauma, and substances. Naked but for neon straps, she mixes video projections, dance, and animatronic rabbits with unapologetic bodily imagery (including an extreme close-up defecation-selfie). Baird’s screen-self takes drugs and mumbles incoherently, whilst her stage-self chats back with clarity and charisma, creating a confronting dialogue between public and private, past and present. Hilarious yet bleak, excessive yet gentle, ‘Get Off’ hinges on Baird’s unparalleled talent for breaking down barriers with warmth and humour, whilst making genuinely boundary-pushing work that finds the strongest connections in life’s messiest bits. Grotesquely fearless, and gorgeously queer, ‘Get Off’ is a liberating and unforgettable hour.
