Geoffrey Asmus: Patriautism (Country Mile Productions)

Although delivered like a flow of consciousness, you sense American comedian Geoffrey Asmus may have started writing his show with a structured list of topics that are likely to inflame at least some of his audience. Lots of religion and politics obviously, with abortion, paedophilia and neurodiversity also on the list, each topic mined for both offence but also incredibly funny quips and observations. Asmus is an equal opportunities offender. Yes he takes aim at right-wingers and the MAGA crowd back home, but he also targets the more lefty and liberal views presumably held by many of his audience and, I think it’s safe to assume, Asmus himself. He does a great job of finding that line of decency and then leaning, and occasionally jumping, over it to create a brutal and hilarious hour of comedy.

Monkey Barrel Comedy, until 30 Aug.
