Fauré And La Belle Chanson (Caroline Salmon And Anne Evans)

Vive la France! This selection, mainly of Impressionist French songs with two flute pieces, made for a convivial hour’s listening, with Impressionist paintings lending suitable ambience. The musicians took turns accompanying each other on the piano; Soprano Caroline Salmon singing and Anne Evans playing the flute. Eva Dell’Acqua’s ‘Villanelle’ was a highlight, with Caroline Salmon singing its tricky coloratura passages with accuracy and aplomb. Indeed she was animated and communicative throughout the varied programme. Flautist Anne Evans entertained the audience with two Faurė pieces, the popular ‘Sicilienne’ and a study ‘Morceau de Concours’ of the type familiar to student flautists and interesting in a concert setting. And, of course, being a French concert, there was wine available!

Valvona & Crolla, various dates until 19 Aug.
