FAMEHUNGRY (Louise Orwin)

The TikTok app has been downloaded three billion times. It’s a colossal mass of eyeballs – hard to explain, harder to understand. Performance artist Louise Orwin spent months diving into its attention economy and the result is ‘FAMEHUNGRY’, performed for us while simultaneously being broadcast live to an audience of visibly confused TikTok users. Orwin enlists the help of Gen Z TikToker Jax, via Zoom, to offer their perspective on growing up in front of a camera. Jax proves to be a vital presence, giving the show its hardest-hitting moments and its emotional core. The result is a skilful interrogation of how to make art in a world that feels like it’s being chewed up, swallowed and regurgitated as contextless slop.

Summerhall, until 26 Aug.
