Who is Sue Gray? Keir Starmer’s chief of staff, head scrutiniser of Partygate – despite her proximity to power, the publicity-averse Gray is an enigma to most of us. This gives character comedian Emma Sidi licence to reinvent her as a gloriously basic, TK Maxx-adoring office hun, regaling us with goss from her years in the “civvy serv”. Sidi gets stuck into a gleefully warped alternate history of the Tories’ fall and Labour’s rise, stuffed with quotable lines, and including some delightfully absurdist recurring bits that add variety whenever the shtick threatens to wear thin. Sidi’s Gray proves to be an ideal lens for this strange political moment we find ourselves in – on the cusp of something different, hopefully something better.

Pleasance Courtyard, until 25 Aug.
