Casual Encounters (NoLogo Productions)
By Stephanie Gray | Published on Sunday 31 August 2014
Set in a wealthy couple’s living room, ‘Casual Encounters’ is a comedy examination of married life in suburbia. Bored with their marriage but determined to liven it up, James Rogers convinces his wife Jennifer to try wife swapping; and all hell breaks loose. The laughs may at times be cheap (think man in a dress) but on the whole the acting is good, and the plot twist thoroughly unexpected. There came a point, once the antagonists were no longer involved, where I felt the play could and should really have finished; a desire to tie up loose ends by bringing in an extra character feels unnecessary and only drags out what is an entertaining but slightly amateur show.
theSpace @ Surgeons Hall, until 16 Aug.
