Lee Griffiths – Post-Traumatic Sketch Disorder (Soho Theatre)
By Daisy Malt | Published on Sunday 31 August 2014
Unfortunately, ‘Post-Traumatic Sketch Disorder’ failed to set my world alight. I like Lee’s overall concept – is truth stranger than fiction? – but this thread somehow got a little lost in his therapy-like monologue, in which he lays bare his ‘unusual’ family background, interspersing this with random characters (an effort to contrast reality and fiction). The delivery felt lacking in confidence and unrehearsed, and moreover, simply lacked a level of fine-tuning you might expect from a show at a reputable venue; meanwhile some of the biggest laughs were a result of audience interaction which threw him off his material. Griffiths has potential to be a great raconteur though – he probably just needs to spend a little more time thinking his show through.
Pleasance Courtyard, until 25 Aug.
