Dinosaur Zoo (Erth)
By Hannah Cutting | Published on Sunday 31 August 2014
As an adult, enjoyment of ‘Dinosaur Zoo’ will probably hinge on how much you like dinosaurs (fortunately, I love dinosaurs). Children, however, cannot fail to be enraptured by the spectacle of this educational puppet show. Host Lindsey Chaplin is knowledgeable and relaxed, punctuating the production with quippy remarks and surreptitious innuendo to keep the grown ups on side, while keeping the kids interested with audience participation throughout; our host is clearly experienced at working with children and was well prepared for the unexpected. The puppetry is good but not exceptional, and the educational element is limited to accommodate a child’s attention span. This show knows its target audience, but is probably not meaty enough to expand beyond it.
Pleasance Courtyard, until 25 Aug.
